Rani Pink 120 Count Premium Mukkati Sungudi Saree — Straight from the Looms
Rani pink is the colour of celebration, and in this premium sungudi saree, it’s paired with crisp white Mukkati dots and a contrasting light green blouse for a combination that feels fresh, festive, and unmistakably traditional all at once. It’s the kind of saree that catches the eye the moment it’s unfolded.
The Kattu Saayam process — what makes this saree special
This is an Achu Kattu Sungudi — one of Madurai’s most authentic sungudi saree styles, made using traditional clamp and wax-resist dyeing, a labour-intensive method that no machine can replicate. Artisans hand-stamp hot wax in precise three-dot Mukkati patterns onto the cotton fabric using carved wooden blocks. Every single dot is placed individually by hand, here in crisp white that stands out beautifully against the rani pink base. The fabric is then dyed, the wax removed, and what’s left is that characteristic Mukkati grouping scattered across the body — slightly irregular, completely unique, entirely handmade.
What sets this piece apart is the 120 count cotton — a finer thread count that gives the fabric a noticeably softer drape and a more refined finish than our standard sungudi sarees. The single side border features a traditional elephant motif woven in gold zari, adding a touch of grandeur along the hem.
This saree comes with a separate light green blouse piece in a gold checked pattern, finished with a gold peacock motif border — a contrast piece designed to be tailored separately, giving you the freedom to style the blouse exactly the way you want. The pink and green combination is a classic for a reason — it never goes out of style.
No two pieces are identical. That’s not a flaw — that’s the point.

A note about colour — please read before ordering
Because these sarees are traditionally hand-dyed using natural processes, colour bleeding is expected — especially in the first few washes. This is completely normal and a sign of authentic dyeing. Actual colour may also appear slightly different from photos due to lighting and screen settings. You may also notice slight sand smudges; sungudi sarees are dyed and dried in sand under sunlight as part of the traditional process.
Care instructions:
- First wash: Soak in cold water with a handful of rock salt for 15–20 minutes to help lock colour
- Wash separately: Hand wash alone with mild shampoo or liquid detergent — no washing machine, no harsh bleach
- Drying: Gently squeeze out excess water (do not wring), dry in shade — not direct sunlight
- Avoid long soaking; these are made from fine threads
A word on handcrafted pieces
Every Achu Kattu sungudi saree is handmade, and slight variations in weave, pattern placement, or colour tone are natural and expected. A few thread pulls here and there are part of what makes a handcrafted piece genuinely handcrafted.
