There’s something so cheerful about butterflies scattered across a saree, and this pink batik sungudi captures that perfectly — each motif wax-stamped onto the fabric, so no two land quite the same way. Pair that with a rich green pallu carrying its own detailed batik medallion work, and you’ve got a saree that’s equal parts playful and elegant — the kind of piece that would work beautifully as smart, traditional office wear as much as it would for a casual outing.

What makes this a batik sungudi saree

This saree is made using the traditional clamp and wax-resist dyeing technique, where wax is stamped onto the fabric in the desired motifs before the cloth is dyed. Once dyed, the wax is removed, revealing the design underneath. As the wax handles through the process, it naturally cracks in places, letting fine lines of dye seep through — that’s what gives batik work its signature “crackle” texture. Look closely at the butterfly motifs and the pallu’s medallion work, and you’ll notice this fine crackle running through them — no two pieces ever crackle quite the same way, which is what makes each saree genuinely one of a kind.

The pink body carries these butterflies scattered across it, while the green pallu takes things further with an elaborate batik design of paisley swirls and circular medallions — easily the most detailed part of the saree. The border running along the edges is our classic Rettapet peacock design in gold zari, giving the whole piece a lovely balance between the free-flowing batik work and the more structured woven border.

The blouse comes attached, in the same green, and carries the Rettapet peacock border worked in batik as well — so the whole saree feels cohesive from pallu to hem.

A note about the dyeing process

🌸 During the dyeing process, our sungudi sarees are traditionally dried on sand. Because of this, you may notice slight sand-coloured marks on some sarees. This is not a defect or a colour issue — these marks will disappear after the first wash.

Care instructions:

• Hand wash separately in cold water with mild detergent
• Avoid machine wash and harsh bleach
• Gently squeeze, dry in shade
• Avoid long soaking

Actual colour may appear slightly different from photos due to lighting and screen settings. Slight variations in weave, pattern placement, or colour tone are natural and expected in a handcrafted piece.
