Description
Cream Velthari Sungudi Saree
A cream and red sungudi saree is one of the most loved pairings in Tamil homes. It feels right for poojas, temple visits and family celebrations alike. This Velthari sungudi saree keeps the look light and graceful, with fine zari lines running across a soft cream body and a rich red border to frame it. It’s easy to wear for long hours and still special enough for festive days.
About Velthari
Velthari takes its name from the lines that run across the fabric. In this saree, fine zigzag zari lines are woven across the cream body at even intervals. They add a soft shimmer without overwhelming the saree, so it feels elegant rather than heavy.
Body, border and pallu
The cream body carries evenly spaced bands of fine zigzag zari lines that catch the light as you move. The border is a deep red featuring golden zari mangoes alternating with neat triangles of tiny zari dots, finished with slim zari lines along the edges. The pallu continues in red with the same fine zigzag zari lines running across it, so the body and pallu match beautifully.

A note about colour – please read before ordering
This saree is made using traditional processes, so colour bleeding is expected, especially in the first few washes. This is completely normal and a sign of authentic work. Because the body is a light cream, you may notice small smudges or patches of other colours on it. These come from the handmade process and are not a defect. You may also notice slight sand smudges, since sungudi sarees are traditionally dried on sand under sunlight. The actual colour may also look slightly different from the photos due to lighting and screen settings.
Please note: we do not offer exchanges for colour smudges, colour bleeding or colour variations, as these are a natural part of how this saree is made.
Care instructions
First wash: Soak in cold water with a handful of rock salt for 15–20 minutes to help lock in the colour
Wash separately: Hand wash alone with mild shampoo or liquid detergent. Do not use a washing machine or harsh bleach.
Drying: Gently squeeze out excess water (do not wring) and dry in shade, not direct sunlight
Avoid long soaking, as these sarees are made from fine threads
A word on handcrafted pieces
Every Velthari sungudi saree from Madurai is made the traditional way. Slight variations in zari placement, colour tone and small colour smudges are natural and expected, and they’re part of what makes each saree its own. The actual colour may also vary slightly from the photos due to lighting and screen settings.
