Description
Rani Pink Classic Dot Premium Sungudi Saree
Rani pink and navy blue is one of the most loved pairings in Madurai cotton, and this sungudi saree shows why. The pink is bright and joyful, and the deep navy border keeps it grounded and graceful. It’s a saree that feels just as right at a temple visit or a family function as it does on an ordinary day when you simply want to feel well dressed.
The classic sungudi dot
The pattern on this saree follows the classic sungudi look, the small squares and rings that Madurai’s original kai kattu sungudi made famous. Here the design is created by hand-stamping hot wax onto the cotton with carved wooden blocks, placing each square and ring one at a time. The fabric is then dyed and the wax removed, leaving the motifs standing out against the pink. Because every stamp is placed by hand, the spacing is slightly irregular, which is what makes each saree handmade and its own.
Body, border and pallu
Woven in premium Madurai cotton, the rani pink body is covered edge to edge with tiny navy squares and rings in neat, closely spaced rows. It runs into a navy Rettapet Rudraksha border, where gold zari medallions sit between slim striped dividers. The pallu is navy, crossed by fine seer zari lines that catch the light when you move. A matching navy blouse piece runs along with the saree to complete the look.

A note about colour (please read before ordering)
These sarees are traditionally hand-dyed, so some colour bleeding is expected, especially in the first few washes. This is normal and a sign of authentic dyeing. The actual colour may also look slightly different from the photos because of lighting and screen settings. You may notice slight sand smudges too, since sungudi sarees are dried on sand under the sun as part of the traditional process.
Care instructions
- First wash: Soak in cold water with a handful of rock salt for 15–20 minutes to help lock the colour
- Wash separately: Hand wash on its own with mild shampoo or liquid detergent. No washing machine and no harsh bleach.
- Drying: Gently squeeze out excess water without wringing, and dry in shade, not direct sunlight
- Avoid long soaking, as these sarees are made from fine threads
A word on handcrafted pieces
Every block-stamped sungudi saree from Madurai is made by hand, so slight variations in motif spacing, pattern placement or colour tone are natural and expected. That’s part of what makes a handcrafted piece genuinely handcrafted.
