Description
Off-White Pavithra Kattam Sungudi Saree
Off-white spreads across the body in a fine golden check, the Pavithra Kattam weave catching light with every fold. This sungudi saree brings a quiet, understated elegance — the kind of piece that works as easily for temple visits as it does for everyday wear.
Technique
This is a Pavithra Kattam Sungudi — a woven check design distinct from the wax-resist dyed sungudi styles. The golden check pattern is woven directly into the fabric, running consistently across the body and pallu, rather than stamped or dyed on afterward. This gives the saree its fine, textured, all-over grid effect, with the checks catching the light differently depending on how the fabric falls.
Body, border, pallu
The off-white body carries a fine golden check throughout, evenly woven from end to end. The same golden check continues into the pallu, keeping the look consistent across the length of the saree. Framing the fabric on both sides is a peacock motif border in golden tones — birds worked in fine detail, running the full length of the saree.

A note about colour — please read before ordering
Because these sarees are traditionally dyed and woven using natural processes, slight colour variation is expected. Actual colour may also appear slightly different from photos due to lighting and screen settings. 🌸 You may also notice slight sand smudges; sungudi sarees are dyed and dried in sand under sunlight as part of the traditional process.
Care instructions
First wash: Soak in cold water with a handful of rock salt for 15–20 minutes to help lock colour
Wash separately: Hand wash alone with mild shampoo or liquid detergent — no washing machine, no harsh bleach
Drying: Gently squeeze out excess water (do not wring), dry in shade — not direct sunlight
Avoid long soaking; these are made from fine threads
A word on handcrafted pieces
Every Pavithra Kattam sungudi saree from Madurai is handwoven, and slight variations in check spacing, border placement, or colour tone are natural and expected — that’s part of what makes a handcrafted piece genuinely handcrafted. No two pieces are identical. The actual colour may also vary slightly from photos due to lighting and screen settings.
