Description
White Rettapet Peacock Border Sungudi Saree — Straight from Madurai’s Looms
There is something deeply calming about a pure white sungudi saree. No colour, no dots, no embellishment — just honest white cotton and the quiet confidence of a woman who knows exactly what she’s wearing. This plain white sungudi saree with the traditional Rudraksh Rettapet peacock border is exactly that kind of piece. The kind your grandmother would have worn to early morning temple, the kind that drapes beautifully without trying, the kind that never goes out of style because it was never really in style — it simply always belonged.
What makes this saree special
The Rudraksh Rettapet is one of Madurai’s most traditional border styles — the repeating peacock motif in gold zari running in two distinct rows along the edge, creating a border that is recognisable, elegant, and timelessly South Indian. On a pure white body, it becomes even more striking — the gold zari peacock border standing out clearly against the clean white cotton, with nothing else to compete for attention.
The plain white body is woven from pure Madurai sungudi cotton — fine, breathable, and naturally comfortable even through a long day. No zari lines, no check pattern, no dots — just the pure, unembellished white that makes this saree one of the most versatile pieces in our collection. Wear it to temple, to an auspicious family occasion, or any day that calls for something clean, simple, and genuinely beautiful.
This saree comes with a blouse piece attached — 6 metres total including blouse.
A note about the white fabric — please read before ordering
Pure white sarees are handled alongside coloured fabrics during the weaving and processing stage. Slight colour smudges may be present on the fabric — this is natural and characteristic of hand-processed white cotton, not a defect. The actual colour may also appear slightly different from photos due to lighting and screen settings.
Care instructions:
- First wash: Hand wash gently in cold water with mild detergent
- Wash separately: Always wash alone — white cotton picks up colour easily from other fabrics
- Drying: Dry in shade — direct sunlight may cause yellowing over time
- Avoid harsh bleaches; use mild stain removers if needed
- Store separately from coloured sarees
A word on handcrafted pieces
Every white sungudi saree is handwoven, and slight variations in the border, weave, or texture are natural and expected. These are the marks of genuine handcraft, not imperfection.
