Description
This exquisitely crafted wooden Lord Muruga Kavadi panel is a beautiful handcrafted piece that has withstood the test of time. The panel features Lord Muruga on his peacock with his consorts Valli and Devasena flanking his sides. The divine frame with the deities is topped with a carving of temple towers (gopurams) and the bottom features a simple cut out with traditional carvings akin to divine kavadis. The wooden Kavadi panel was once used during traditional Kavadi Attam, a dance ceremony practised by devotees that “carry the burden”.
This stunning panel has been procured from Salem and is estimated to be between 50 and 60 years of age.
